Marc Hirshman studies and teaches midrash and talmud, with special regard to their thoughts on education, in the context of the cultures that surrounded the Jews in the first five centuries of the common era.
He has published several books including A Rivalry Of Genius (SUNY press 1995) and The Stabilization of Rabbinic Culture: Texts on Education in their Late Antique Context (Oxford University Press 2009), Torah L'chol Baei Haolam (Hakkibutz Hameuchad 1999) שמג most recently a critical edition of Midrash Kohelet Rabbah 1-6 ( Machon Schechter 2016) - online at
